Most conventional digital cameras will produce images that are equivalent to a 35mm film camera which is ok for everyday pictures of friends and family.
The 28mm wide-angle lens on the DMC-TZ5 really comes in to its own when you need the extra width the 28mm lens gives for example when taking pictures of landscapes or need to shoot interiors or get a number of people into a group shot.
The DMC-TZ5 comes in four colours Black DMC-TZ5EB-K and Silver DMC-TZ5EB-S, Chocolate Brown DMC-TZ5EG-TA and a US Blue version DMC-TZ5A which is been sold by some resellers for example on Amazon UK.

The Lumix DMC-TZ5 28mm is an absolute must when you want to get as much as you can when shooting pictures in a confined space or trying to get all your friends and family photographed in a single group shot. The wide ranging 28mm – 280mm lens on the DMC-TZ5 and compact body make this the best travel camera available today. Added to this are a number of functions that are useful additions for travellers

This useful feature lets you store photos of things like transport time tables, tube and road maps or other information guides that you might want to refer too. These pictures are saved in a separate clipboard folder in the built-in memory of the camera.
Title Edit and Time Stamp
You can print titles and other characters on the photos you shoot.
This is great for creating your own postcards from a vacation trip.

3” LCD Display
Large 3 inch Colour LCD Display
The Lumix DMC-TZ5 has a large 3 inch high-quality LCD screen to use when taking pictures and for reviewing them afterwards. The display screen has 460,000 pixels giving a clear and comfortable viewing experience when displaying your pictures.
The display’s brightness automatically adjusts in 10 steps making sure that images remain easy to see and clear and bright both indoors and outside when ambient light levels change.
A display selector on the back of the DMC-TZ5 camera allows you to change between different LCD monitor displays, such as a composition guide lines and a histogram. Guide lines can be turned on and used as a reference for composition for example to judge the balance of a subject or the centre of the scene.
The histogram is a small graph that indicates the distribution of brightness in the picture. for example if the graph peaks at the right it means there are several bright areas in the picture. A peak in the centre means that the brightness is correct.
Intelligent Auto Mode
Intelligent Auto Technology
New Lumix cameras including the Panasonic DMC-TZ5 benefit from a combination of four detection and optimizing functions (MEGA O.I.S., Intelligent ISO Control, Face Detection, Intelligent Scene Selector) known collectively as Intelligent Auto Technology. Working together these functions make it easy for everyone to capture great images every time whatever the conditions. Just turn the Mode Dial to Intelligent Auto mode [iA] and the Lumix TZ5 automatically selects the correct shooting mode for the conditions preventing blurry and out of focus pictures and leaving you to concentrate on composing that perfect shot.
MEGA O.I.S.
MEGA Optical Image Stabilized uses built-in gyro-sensors on the Panasonic DMC-TZ5 to detect any tiny movements in the camera such as those caused by handshake and then shift the lens in the other direction to compensate giving you sharp clear images and no blurring. MEGA O.I.S. helps you take high quality picture in a wide range of conditions which otherwise would be difficult. These include taking un-blurred hand-held high zoom pictures, clear, atmospheric night shots, brilliant indoor shots and crisp, blur free close up (Macro) shots.
Intelligent ISO Control
Intelligent ISO Control uses subject motion detection circuitry to detect whether or not the image subject is moving. If it is, the system automatically raises the ISO setting (that is, the light sensitivity of the CCD) so that the camera can shoot at a higher shutter speed preventing motion blur maintaining the quality and natural-looking image.
Face Detection
The new Panasonic face detection function on the DMC-TZ5 detects faces anywhere in the shooting image and automatically chooses the best settings for focus and exposure making sure that peoples faces are clear and sharp. Face detection can detect up to 15 faces in a frame, and automatically readjust the settings and can even track a face if the subject is moving. In Intelligent Auto mode, the camera automatically starts focusing without needing to press the shutter button halfway, allowing you to quickly snap instant photos as the opportunity happens.
Intelligent Scene Selector
Panasonic's Intelligent Scene Selector makes it even easier to get great images by optimising the camera settings for different shots. The function senses the ambient conditions, recognizes the shooting environment and automatically selects the appropriate scene mode from: Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait or Night Scenery mode. This leaves you to concentrate on composing and taking beautiful photographs.
Digital Red-Eye Reduction
Intelligent Auto mode helps prevent the red-eye problem you get when taking flash pictures in dim lighting conditions and at night. Red-eye reduction on the DMC-TZ5 works by firing a small initial flash immediately before the main flash fires. This means that the problem of red-eye is automatically detected and corrected digitally. Intelligent ExposureWith this new feature, your photos are no longer under- or over-exposed. Instead, the Lumix TZ5 automatically analyzes the framed image and adjusts the brightness in areas that are too dark because of dim lighting, backlighting or the use of the flash. Adjusting the brightness of dark areas this function produces natural images that are closer to the way that scenes actually look in real life. Take Motion Pictures30 fps High Definition Motion Pictures and HD Output
The Lumix DMC-TZ5 can record 30 frames per second motion pictures and sound with a 1280 x 720 HD resolution. You can also take motion pictures while zooming too and record some footage to share with friends and family. When you've finished filming you can enjoy your motion pictures in high definition by connecting the camera to a HDTV using a component cable (optional).
